COSTS AND TIMESCALES IN DIRECT ACCESS CASES: Licencing Law and Winding Up
Barrister Anna Uukelo is obliged to provide indicative information about costs and timescales in certain areas of work which she might take on under Direct (Public) Access.
This information is set out below and refers to:
- Licensing applications in relation to business premises;
- Winding up petitions.
All costs below are indicative costs only (estimates) which might be affected by a number of factors such Barrister Anna Uukelo’s availability; how complex the work is; how much preparation is required and how urgent the work is.

Costs:
Barrister Anna Uukelo most often charges her hourly rate of £375 per hour and, does not charge VAT. Barrister Anna Uukelo may charge fixed fees which means that she will charge you a set amount of money for the work. Below, she provides estimates based on the ranges of her fixed fees depending on whether the matter is at the beginning straightforward or medium to complex or particularly complex (this category may change as the matter progresses and you will be informed of this). You will also be informed when her hourly rate of £375 may apply if any additional work is required, before additional work is undertaken. Barrister Anna Uukelo does not charge VAT.
LICENSING APPLICATIONS IN RELATION TO BUSINESS PREMISES
Barrister Anna Uukelo can advise you on the following licensing applications for your business:
- The sale or supply of alcohol
- Change of opening hours; and
- Entertainment purposes.
Barrister Anna Uukelo can also represent you when your application is heard by the local authority licensing committee, and in any appeal to the Magistrates’ Court.
Timescales
Timescales for her services may vary depending on factors such as her availability, the
complexity of your application and the need for additional documents.
As a guide, written advice on your application will be available within two to four weeks where possible.
Hearing dates for local authority licensing committees are set in advance, and Barrister Anna Uukelo will aim to represent you on your preferred hearing date where possible. If the local authority licensing committee refuses your application, appeals must be made to the Magistrates’ Court within 21 days.
Costs:
Barrister Anna Uukelo may charge fixed fees which means that she will charge you a set amount of money for the work. Below Barrister Anna Uukelo provides estimates based on the averages of fixed fees for Barrister Anna Uukelo depending on the complexity of your case: Barrister Anna Uukelo does not charge VAT.

WINDING UP PETITIONS
If you are owed £750 or more by a company and are able to prove that the company cannot pay you, you may be able to apply to a court to close or ‘wind-up’ the company. Or if you are owed £5000 or more by an individual. I can advise you on the process of issuing a winding-up petition and represent you at the court hearing. If you are company which has had a winding-up petition issued against you, I can also advise you on the process of defending it and represent you at the court hearing.
Timescales
Timescales may vary depending on factors such as Barrister Anna Uukelo’s availability, the need for additional
documents and court waiting times. However, as a guide the courts tend to have a hearing date
eight to ten weeks after a winding-up petition is issued.
Costs:
Barrister Anna Uukelo most often charges her hourly rate of £375 per hour and, does not charge VAT.
Barrister Anna Uukelo may charge fixed fees which means that she will charge you a set amount of money for the work.
Below she provides estimates based on the ranges of her fixed fees depending on whether the matter is, when she gets involved; straightforward or complex (this category may change as the matter progresses and you will be informed of this). You will also be informed when her hourly rate of £375 may apply if any additional work is required, before additional work is undertaken. Barrister Anna Uukelo does not charge VAT.
If she charges fixed fees, these may be towards the higher end of the range if your matter is more complex and/or the number of documents involved. If the matter is particularly complex, your fees may also be higher than the estimates below. There are also likely to be additional costs of £302 to issue a winding up petition as well as the Official Receiver's deposit (the amount of which will be notified to you by the court processing

If you are issuing a winding-up petition, you should also note that even if the company is wound up, you might not get all or any of the money you are owed.

Barrister Anna Uukelo does not offer legal aid work for solicitors or to direct access clients.
Barrister Anna Uukelo generally does not work on conditional fees or under a no win no fee basis.
Barrister Anna Uukelo does not offer free consultation, except she is willing to offer you a free15-minute call to assess if she can assist you with your matter or 1 email reply to your query. She does not offer legal advice on this call or in her 1 email reply. However, should you insist upon continuing with the call beyond the free 15 minutes or continue to send her emails after your 1 email response, she will charge you for her time.
